Since my female Cocoa has started to lay my male Ebony has gone crazy.

He is so protective over Cocoa now. My lab went outside this morning and I hear her barking like crazy at something. We have an orange male cat that thinks it lives at our house so I figured she was barking at him. I open the door to see my lab jumping to come inside and I look around the corner and there is Ebony all puffed up, head down, tail spread wide open, running full speed at her.

I let in my dog, shut the door, and stood outside just looking at Ebony. I think he realized the dog was gone and I was standing there because he looked up and stopped dead in his tracks. He then started doing his little honking noise that he does when he want a treat.

Anytime my lab walks by them there goes Ebony charging her. He never used to care about my ACD/pit/lab mix being around but now he will start walking up to him and honking at him. My mutt and both ducks used to lay in the sun together but now Ebony doesn't want anything around Cocoa. When I walk up to them he will run and stand in front of her now.

The funny part is that Cocoa used to be the boss and Ebony always followed her everywhere. Now Ebony is the leader and she follows him everywhere.

So is Ebony just doing his "job" taking care of Cocoa since she is laying now?

I think so. My normally sweety-pie drake charged me yesterday. I almost fell over laughing. I just grabbed him by the bill and he got the point

LOL...I was hoping he was just being a good hubby.

I did start laughing when I saw him this morning. Something the size of an overgrown football acting like he is the size of a mastiff.

If anyone else walks up to them while she is sitting down he will start to do a warning charge. If I walk up to them he just stands in front of her, like to make sure I am not going to do anything.
