Hi guys! I’m a new chick mama. I’ve had 4 chicks for about 6ish weeks.
I think I can already tell who the “head hen” is. My question is, is it common for the head hen to be sort of a loner? She does sleep with the others and takes dust baths with them as well but a lot of the time she’s off doing her own thing. Is this common? Or is it just her personality?

They can go through different stages as they mature and change quite a bit, only advice I can give because I'm not a real chicken hugger is if one decides on their own to be your buddy and fly up on your shoulder or leg Etc never shoo them away.. there's usually at least one that will decide to be your good buddy as they mature

I am a chicken hugger haha but I don’t force them. Another question. This same hen will BITE my fingers when I reach in to pet the others. Like full on open her beak and bite. Do you know why she would do this?

Do you hand feed them? She might think you have food. If you wear rings or anything like that that might also trigger a curious bite. My buff orpington pullet Juniper kept biting and pecking at my hand the other day 'cause I was wearing sparkly nail polish. Once she figured out I didn't have food she stopped enough to let me pet her but if I turned my hand over she went right back to trying to eat my nails lol. Beware of wearing anything sparkly around chickens
(Juniper is actually a very sweet girl and one of my friendliest, that "incident" was entirely on me)

I do hand feed them but generally she won’t eat out of my hand. Some of my other chicks will peck my rings and even my tattoos 😅 so I get that but she just straight up bites my finger and runs away. I’m not sure what’s going on with her lol
