One of my chickens was bullied and her head was pecked to the bone and bleeding. It happened yesterday and she still seems very traumatized by it. I have to hand water and feed her. I thought she would kind of snap out of it? How long did it take yours to start feeding themselves again? I have her inside the house with me. She will only open one eye and she can stand up. She won't make any noise though. She tries to chirp but nothing comes out. I'm using Underwood, peroxide water mixture, baking powder, etc. I made an electrolyte water that I've been feeding her too. Is it just going to take time or do you think she's brain damaged? There wasn't any brains hanging out or anything. We pick her up and she just snuggles in an closes her eyes. She is VERY lethargic still. Just wondering everyone's experience. Thank you!!!!

Generally they can take up to a week before they begin to start improving after a trauma. If you don't see improvement by then you may not. If they survive the first night and the shock they will often recover, though those with head injuries can sometimes end up with brain damage and will be a bit slow. Give it time, keep it comfortable, don't mess with it too much. It may not eat for a few days, it should start drinking by itself within 3-4 days. Sometimes when you try to help them, especially with feeding or water they can choke. So quiet and rest are the best thing for a few days.

Thanks for you reply! I'll keep an eye on her. I keep reapplying the Underwood and baking powder. We shall see.
