Head Plume Missing

I have recently had a 2 yr old male and a 1 yr old female for a few weeks. The other day I noticed that the males head plume feathers were missing. Is this normal for him to shed or molt them, or could the female have pulled them out. And if its normal for this to happen? Thanks.

Both and yes. They do molt the head crests and other birds will preen or eat the feathers of other birds. It can be a bad habit to break.
