Heading to the hardware store, just got a friend to watch my chickens and another friend to take me to the store, I had an emergency last night on my indoor brooder where a chicken jumped out and my dogs ate it, now i am heading to the store to build a coup for when they are mature... and a temporary brooder box to use between the age they are now. [5 weeks] until they are ready to go in a coop.

I didn't have much planning time or anything but what i realy need right now is a link to a simple coop design that will hold ten hens, some sort of how to guide with a materials list would be great right now i dont have a car and never get to go to the store but im heading there now in a van so i can stock up on materials and supplies... shoot me some links with materials list for a nice coop, ive got plenty of room in the yard and im not picky on design but its urget that i get my chicks out of the brooder they are in now and into something safer.

thanks in advance.

I used a clearance yard barn/shed kit from Home Depot. It was pretty cheap and made a great coop. Can you take a look and see what's available around your area?

Sorry about your chick.

I agree that an actual shed is the best way to go; you will want at least five to six sq. ft. per bird in the coop, and more in the run. Build it big enough! Add windows and vents covered in well secured hardware cloth, and a window with hardware cloth in the door. Ventilation!!! I use a large livestock water tank for a brooder, covered in hardware cloth. My dogs also love chicken; separation is essential. Mary
