Headless Baby Chick :(

Yes, skunks, coons, possums weasels, rats... everyone loves chicken!!! So sorry, but it's true. No openings larger tha, 1/2 inch into the coop for night- time safety, and sturdy attachment for hardware cloth. A large racoon or a dog can tear through flimsy areas of the coop, and open some latches. That skunk needs to be dead, because he'll be back. Mary

There was no other way to let the skunk out of the live trap, so my dad had to shoot him. So yes, he is dead. We also caught many raccoons in the trap. We have so many wild animals where we live that it's hard to know for sure who was the culprit. We have skunks, raccoons, coyotes, cats, dogs, weasels, hawks etc etc etc....

My dad repaired the chicken house. He spent lots of money on good wood, but it will keep our chickens safe. The bay who survived is now perching up high with her momma, and no longer sleep in the nesting box on the ground. I think it makes them feel safer up high as well.

Thank you though very much! Heidi

Please don't relocate racoons!! It's illegal in most states, check with the DNR where you live. They are smart cute critters that are a major rabies carrier in many areas. They also carry a bad intestinal roundworm, and probably won't ever get in live trap again, so someone else will have a much harder time protecting their flock. Mary
