Chick #15 pipped this morning at 6:15 a.m. as I sat there! How lucky was that?! He has made little headway since though and it's now 3:30 in the afternoon. The membrane looks yellowy, not clear and he's still peeping. Should I be concerned yet? Chick 15 struggles and rocks the egg... Remember, I have the eggs on nonslip drawer liner and I'm wondering if the egg needs to roll... If it does should I open the incubator window and slip paper towels under the eggs? Would it be bad to take them all out keeping their orientation constant and put towels down? My humidity is holding at 80% and my temp is 99.5-100.0.
Also, in the Chic, Chic Bator postings we got to discussing playing music for our chickens. I suggested trying classical music since others say their chickens like rock and country and western. My son hauled the CD player downstairs and is playing classical radio - he says every time the violins play the chick's beak moves back and forth or he peeps! How funny!
Oh! My son just came upstairs to tell me that he tried playing oldies rock music and Chick 15 rolled the egg, hit into the wall of the incubator and made a crack in his shell! Maybe struggling chicks need some good old fashioned rock n roll!
