First I would ike to state that this was some time ago and this question is for the purpose of keeping my chicks safe when they're chickens. My brother, about a year ago, bought a lot of chicks, raised them to chiockens, and put them in our barn. After about a month he went down to the barn to take care of them like he did in the morning, two dead chickens, with only the heads off, the next night nine, the night after that almost all the rest (The last night he moved them to a small pen he bult in the barn and whatever it was broke through three places, two were wire, and one was screen. Only the heads were taken off. The floor of the barn is dirt, and the eaves are open. Whatever it wa could have flown in or dug in. He did have a few chickens left which he sold to a person who had had these problems before but had taken care of them. We had chickens before and it was only the Barred Rocks that got killed, Dan only had barred Rocks, a couple Banties, and two Wyandottes. Most of the Rocks got killed and in the end only like nine Rocks made it. Any idea what this predator might have been?

young chickens. The places where the eaves are open, there is only one way to get to them, and that's flying. There were no racoon sized holes in the ground where a raccoon could have dug in.
