Does anyone know if this is a healthy frizzle? I've never had any and to be honest I used to think they were ugly but this one's personality has forced a change of heart.

Now I just want to make sure it's healthy also any knowledge of it's gender would be greatly appreciated I certainly am hoping for a hen but I could always breed a roo to one of my cochins right?

Rooster, and yes. But, he's never going to look 'better'. He has 2 copies of the frizzle gene, so he will always have brittle / thin feathering. He's healthy in a sense, he's eating, producing and living happily. He's genetically weak however. You can breed him to your hens, but don't breed back to him, otherwise they'll have weak genes (I don't know if a frizzle with 2 copies of the genes would throw weak chicks too or? So ask around xD )

So since he's a pure frizzle he's weaker?? and would it be more likely to get a frizzle out of a cochin or does it matter? also I'm hoping to learn more so how can you tell he's a roo? Also I got him from murray mcmurray and I was told they were a trust worthy hatchery is this not true?

Well since he has 2 copies he has weaker feathers
Yes, if you bred him to a frizzle all would Carry the gene but not all would show. I don't know how many would show, but they wouldn't be so weak like him.
Yes, Mcmurray is a reliable hatchery. They have healthy birds, and are just as reliable as any other hatchery, though I like them especially. Mistakes happen in a hatchery, this could've happened anywhere. I'd notify them that you got a 2 copy frizzle gene to make the over look they're breeding pens. They have good customer service and I'm sure would like to know as not to breed more of the weak lil guys. If anything they'd be better about it then others, but Im very partial to them, lol, I've never gotten chicks from them that just died... Have a couple times from other hatcheries. Low morality rate from them as well. Lol I'm rambling now.

Best of luck with him, if it gets cold where your at then you may need to make him a little sweater :)

lol well thank you very much and i will notify them. I live in california away from the coast so he'll be okay. also still would like to know how you know hes a roo. I want to learn and do it on my own!! lol
