With two wild Mallards on the property here in Maine, and dawn being cold, what are some healthy treats for wild ducks? I switched from white bread to whole grain, sugar-free bread. They love it... but are there any other healthy snacks with benefits? Especially during breeding season? Thank you! :)

The problem with bread is carbohydrates, They are just complex sugars, Your body breaks it down into glucose, so an almost slow acting sugar, No better for you, But its sure better than nothing and definitly high energy

My duckys favorite protein packed, super cheap treat is cat food! Plain ole cheap walmart cat food
Just don't get something like the friskies' dinner pack :D

I feed my visiting mallards oats when they come all the way to my back porch and I also alway dump bird seed on the ground when I fill my bird feeder. I’ve heard bread isn’t great for them and the old lady next door gives them enough of that so I always keep a container of oats at the back door. I’ve heard corn and peas are good too.

Mealworms, wax worms, dried crickets. Yes they sell all of those lol. I know, I know carbs are bad but my baby ducks love Cheerios in their water. Chips are bad for me too, but I'm not going to give that up.. ;)
