heaps of flies, is it the Lucerne?

I have a similar problem here finding simple things like diatomaceous earth and coarse vermiculite, Veterycin, many of the goodies that BYC DF people find helpful. I order large quantities and keep them in metal bins.

I also, for long term fly issues, subscribe to a fly predator delivery service. That seems to have helped. This is the first year doing it. The predators arrive about a month before fly season. I'll keep the forum posted on how it goes next year.

This morning it was about 15F at my house. The weather service declares that it is 27F. I guess I live in a cold microclimate.

Reckon I will remember to drain the hoses for the rest of the cold season, regardless of the forecast. sigh.
I would love to hear about the fly service. Do keep us posted. The flies this Summer were so icky. The worst part was how many managed to get in the house. We had 5 fly swatters. 5! Yuck.

I used a combination of the predators and flytraps. The latter start smelling ghastly, which is when they do the most good. They are not near any windows! And I do toss them regularly and start again. The fly predators are supposed to be more of a long term management strategy. Someone I know who has over four dozen ducks and geese tells me the predators work very well.

Thank you all. I am still waiting for the diatomaceous earth to be delivered but I sprayed my veg garden with peppermint and garlic. Flies gone... From the veg garden.
