Heartbroken chickens.... or just plain cold turkey?

Yup--Cornish crosses. Sad day. This probably means that the rest of your white chickens will die too. :-( The CornishX aren't built to live long, just to get big really fast. The new chickens will be fine--the sales person probably got "Gold star" or "Golden sex-link" confused with the Cornish cross...Gold Stars/Red Stars/Gold sex links/Red sex links are all roughly the same breed of chicken and are excellent layers.

Although i am sad that my white chickens will die soon, at least i will be able to get what i want next year. Thanks!!
Oh, another quick Q, i have nesting boxes that are shelves makeshifted into boxes. Will this lay better than the ones on the ground. The highest box is about 5-feet high, should i get ones on the ground instead or will this work just as well?

Yeah--I think quite a few people on here have some that are shelves, and they work well. I would too, but I don't have the space. As long as the shelving can't tip over when they fly up, that is. :)

i just heard recently that the nesting boxes need to have little 1 inch sides around the open shelf platform to keep the shavings in and the chicken warm and comfy when they nest. Is this what i am supposed to do?
