Heartbroken

Hey everyone! Thanks for the input!! It was a major bummer for sure. My little girls handled the news better than I did I think. In response to 4H chicken mom... they were shipped on Tues and arrived Thurs morning, but by the condition we felt that they had been dead for a day at least : (

On a happier note, I did find a relatively local source. My girls, my Mom, and I drove two hours to the Rochester area to Nature Berry Farm to pick up some babies ourselves. The people were super nice and they are very available to ask for help/ advice. So, I've already learned about that chicken match because I was planning on 8 and came home with 10

but guess I didn't get to crazy

Everyone is happy and healthy, but one does have a crooked, bent toe. It almost looks like it's broken, but she seems un-phased by it. So I'm thinking nothing to worry about, right?

Thanks again for all the nice thoughts and support!! Loving that chicken TV

The bent toe is only cosmetic, but if you do hatch her eggs it can be an inherited defect - just something to be aware of, mostly for show birds, etc.....

Good luck with the new chicks

First off, Welcome to BYC!
Second, I'm sorry about your babies.
I just recieved an order from My Pet Chicken two weeks ago. Mine all arrived on time, but I did have one loss out of my 7. She died about 2 hours after we brought her home. Mine were all supposed to be pullets, but one is a rooster. I was pleased with their shipment, and responses to my Emails, but I was upset about the dead chick. They were very apologetic about it, and gave me a refund. If I were you, I would try to ship them again. I know someone who orders form that hatchery as well and she has had an overall good experience. I'm not mad about my roo though because I secretly wanted one. The strange thing is all of my bantams were pullets, it was the standard that they messed up.anyways, they have a good reputation, and I despite my loss, I was happy with what I got. My chicks are healthy and thriving. Maybe you should ship one more time, but if you don't feel comfortable, then try another hatchery. Or, buy them locally.
