It was very hot today and I noticed one of my hens mouth breathing more so than others. I’ve brought her inside and I’m not sure if this is from the heat or a respiratory illness. Please advise? VIEW VIDEO (you may have to download it to view)

I’ve provided some electrolytes with water.

It looks to be panting, like she is hot. Was she holding her wings out from her body? I have noticed that overweight hens will have more trouble during hot weather. Is she heavy? I cannot rule out that she is getting sick, but if she seems the same after getting cooled off, I would look her over for other symptoms of a respiratory infection.

so I put her over our vent (lol) and after about 25 minutes the mouth breathing stopped. I put her back out because it was starting to get cooler and we just checked on them in the roost but seems like she’s doing it again. Do I need to keep her inside overnight ?

Since it is cooler, I would leave her there, and check on her in the morning. Or use your judgement.
it’s 76 now and should be down to 72 by 2am. We got her last year in the middle of summer and this never happened but she recently hatched 4 chicks so I’m thinking maybe she gained weight during that time because she was sitting around a lot more after they hatched with them in their own little area so that’s why she’s so hot.
