Heat for Chicks!

Personally, and I do mean personally, I wouldn't risk anything other than a lamp with quail. They're.... special little chicks and get lost in an empty brooder if the move too far away. The heat lamp seems to help guide then a bit if they can feel it getting warmer in a certain direction.
I exclusively use heat plates with my quail, never once had an issue using it. Hatched and brooded thousands this way just for reference

Going to use a radiant heat brooder on my next small brood (6 Shetland Hen chicks) in a couple of weeks for the first time. Looking forward to seeing how they do because heat lamps are such a fire hazard.

Yours must just be smarter then. Mine always take like a week before I can even put in proper feeder and waterer towers or they'll just wander off and die

Do you give them too much space? First 3-5 days don't give them almost any space outside the heat plate. They are dumb dumbs.

Some of my chicks are fragile and weak, should I use something hotter or cooler?
