heat for chicks

I was wondering if I could put my chicks that are going to hatch out this weekend in a heated room instead of using a heat lamp?

Well, if you could keep the room at 90 degrees or better, yes.

The good thing about a heat lamp is that the chicks can adjust their exposure to the heat by moving closer or further away. Besides your room would need to be heated to 90 degrees Fahrenheit for the first week.

Thanks.Hubby always wants to do things different.He was wanting to put them in an extra bedroom and since each room is heated and cooled separately he thought we could just keep the brooder in there with out having to use a heat lamp.

I would think no. They need to be able to move to a cooler area, also. Babies kept at ninety plus degrees constantly will be fried. Babies hatched by momma actually spend quite a bit of time out from under her, they're no meant to be that warm all the time. That's why the heat lamps are good, they can warm up, then move to the cooler end of the brooder.
