Heat lamp advise please

would chicks be ok on a sun porch with heat lamps its not heated out there but stays warm and temps have been averiging 50 to 80 right now?

I have a 250 watt heat lamp with a clamp from TSC. It somehow fell into the wood chips and lit my house on fire.

This happened about an hour ago. The heat lamp had no trouble for the first six hours of use so...

Pro-tip = Make sure the clamp works well where you set it. I can only assume that something wasn't put on correctly.
Yikes! How awful! I currently have the chicks in our dining room.....Maybe I should rethink this.

They are in my bedroom. We'll keep em there still, but I'm getting paranoid in going to sleep tonight. I have no desire for another fire in my bedroom.

Yes on the heat lamp but be careful about the temp getting too high. In a controlled environment, i.e. inside your house, it's very easy for the heat lamp to spike the temps above 100. Just make sure that you have the ability to set the lamp high enough off the coop so you can control the heat. Also make sure to set it off to one side of the brooder so they have a warm zone and a cool zone .
Good advice ... Thank you.

I used an old heating pad the first few days, there has also been alot of people that like their Ecoglo. It's a type of heater, suprised someone hasn't mentioned it yet. Maybe find some kind of grille like the one in your oven or a piece of wire fencing to place over the brooder in case the light does fall.
