The fire wasn't too bad, got some of the carpet and that is all. The clamp held fine for 6 hours, then I left the house and that is when it failed, somehow.
I now have an extra piece of fencing over the top of the brooder to "catch" the heat lamp if it does ever fall again.
This is my first time with my own chicks...which are now about 2 1/2 weeks. I bought the 250 red light and used it for maybe the first week when it was still cold outside (they are in my "sunroom"). I have been using a 100watt bulb since its been in the 60's during the day and it's actually off every afternoon since the sun heats the room up. My RIR are feathering out very nicely and are running around like crazy! They do seem so much more comfortable than when it was really hot in there. BTW, my thermo broke first day so I have gone off of their actions the whole time. I know my parents didnt know what temp it was in their chicks cardboard box growing up and they did just fine!
