No. My current silkie cock is outside in -20 weather without wind chill factored in and colder. I haven't had issues with their feather structure despite how different it is. They have a lot of down. Just keep them away from drafts.

Watch their behaviour, though.

Straw will help and do will a heated perch. Heat lamps are fine but I wouldn't leave it on all day maybe only when it's really cold. I would also put a cage around it. I live in Michigan too and my poor Bantam cockerel got frostbite on his toes!
