I’m going to raise baby chicks in my unheated barn. I have 15 chicks coming the week of March 23rd and temps could be as low as the teens at night up to 50s during the day. I’m in Michigan so the weather is extremely unpredictable. Any recommendations on how low to hang my heat lamp? A lot online says the general recommended is to start at 18inches. The chicks will have space to go away from the lamp if they get too warm. The lamp is 150 watts

Start at 18 and hang it in a way that is adjustable. I used chain and a quick link so I could move it up exactly the amount I wanted and there wasn't any way for it to fall. Their behavior is a much better way to measure than a thermometer.
