Hiya and :welcome!
I have raised one clutch of quail chicks before, and at that time, I'd only had the heat lamp option. Everyone seemed happy and warm enough- but provided that they're so much smaller than standard fowl chicks, perhaps they'd enjoy a plate. ;) I'm no expert, and the quail forum residents certainly would have the better answer.
Best of luck in your endeavors! :)

Howdy :frow I'm "old school", have used heat lamps forever. No, fires, no overheated chicks. Alot of peeps say the plate just doesn't get warm enough, another alternative to the heat lamp, is the Momma Heating Pad (MHP) @Blooie has championed the concept. Do a search on the MHP and you'll find out all about it....I haven't tried it...yet! Good luck on whichever method you choose. Oh, and WELCOME to Backyard Chickens.
