Heat Lamp or Heating Plate?

I’m setting up a brooder for my first chickens and would like some advice on using a lamp or a heating plate. The heating plate looks easier to use and more convenient. Any advice is very welcomed. Thanks.

Heat lamps are dangerous and usually too hot.
Plate or heating pad or regular secure light bulb will work.

How exciting! I started out with the lamp and then used something like the heating plate. I haven't gone back tothe lamp and my chicks seem to like that decision as well!

I have two of the Premier1 heat plates and love them. I've used heat lamps, ceramic heat emitters and Ohio brooders but if brooding a small number of chicks, (less than 50) a heat plate is the way to go. IMHO the primary benefit is that in two broodings, they pay for themselves in electricity savings.

Another big advantage to heat plate is to provide the chicks with a daily dark period after the first couple days.
