Heat Lamp question!

Oh yikes! Alright, well that solves that! But, does the grate get real hot when the heat lamp is directly on it? Is hanging it a good two or three feet from the wall a better idea? Thanks for the heads up though, I wasn't sure but now I am certain no clamps for this soon to be chick momma lol.

I found that the grate does get hot, but only in the area where the lamp is directly in contact with it. Another two inches out from the lamp, the temp has been normal. I haven't had any of my chicks get even remotely close to the lamp from inside the brooder. Now, the trough that I am using as a brooder is about 14 inches deep. If your brooder is shallower, the chicks might be able to reach it as they "stand up" when they are about 3 weeks old. By that time, though, they shouldn't be needing as much heat anyway. The 75 W bulb that I am using now doesn't get hot enough to concern me much.
