at what age do you start cooling the chicks off. I would like to move them to the garage when they start smelling. thank you.

Day olds up to 1 week - 95 degrees
2 weeks old - 90 degrees
continue the "cooling off" by 5 degrees per week.
at 8 weeks, they will be fully feathered, and should be ready for the great outdoors!

Oh, and if you keep the brooder clean shaveings...they wont smell...but WILL be dusty!

I started my 21 in my metal building with two infared heat lamps and they are still there. No heat or insualtion and they're doing great. I have both lamps hanging fron the ceiling by small chain and adjust them up or down depending on the desired temp.
