Ok, I have heard some good and bad about heat lamps. I just want to see who all uses them and when please. I read we are doing a disservice to our chickens if we use them. what do yall think? by the way I live in Alabama. Just want to get some input.

No heat, just a place that is out of the elements and is well ventilated and dry. Your birds will be fine. I have had multiple days below zero degrees Fahrenheit and my hens had no issue. Moisture and cold are bird killers. Heat in a chicken coop is very dangerous and can actually promote a situation for frost bite.

I have used a red heat lamp in the coop ever since they were chicks. I haven't had any problems but insulation is more important than heat to keep them warm, but I also use it to get the chickens to come inside.
