Heat Necessary for Egg Laying?

Thanks! We get rain often, but it might snow (more like sleet) once every 10 years or so here. haha The only worry I had about closing off that end is that it will probably block out the sunlight, but I guess if I just block off the top part at least some light should still be able to come through.
Or you could use clear panels like THESE! My guess is that most of your shop owners customers used a HEAT LAMP for extra warmth, which at the same time gave them more LIGHT. That would explain a lot of things, including the misunderstanding on what was helping them lay!

I use plastic to block off wind, and rain, leaving a space at the top for ventilation to prevent frostbite. No you don't need heat. I suspect your gals are not laying yet due to age.

Yes, I don't know their exact age. We got them in the beginning of July and they were estimated to be about 5 weeks old. So, I'm sure it will probably be another month or so before they lay. We mostly got them for pets. Even though the eggs would be nice throughout winter, I'm mostly concerned that our girls are safe and comfortable. I think adding the plastic would work well to block out the wind while still letting in some sunlight.

I said "possibly "lol! Don't usually get snow here either but it has happened along with some 18 degree nights and just recently we had 50mph wind.Expect the unexpected my friend.:)
Thanks for the giggle Chickassan. I lived in the New Orleans area for over 30 years, I saw snow three times. They do see some freezing temperatures but I only recall a hard freeze twice. That was a mess, water pipes bursting all over.
