It was live at first sight with my two little chicks. I’ve read a few horror stories about heat lamps and opted for the heat pad I’m paranoid that the heat as may be insufficient Has anyone used one and are they worth the money or should I also get a heat lamp. The babies are in an extra large dog kennel in my house with shavings and straw and a blanket over the tops and sides to keep heat in. The door is caged and open because I lie on the floor and watch them every chance I get.
thanks for any input

The heat plate is sufficient and I prefer it over a lamp. You'll need to adjust height as the chicks grow. Have fun!

I was also afraid of the heat lamps - especially when everyone was at work/school and the babies were unattended. I found this idea on this board a few years back. It's a heating pad with chicken wire to mold into a kind of momma hut. It works really well and the chicks love having a place to hide/feel safe. Just make sure you find a pad that won't auto shut off. :)
