Heat Plate Question

Hello, my 2 chicks are now in the brooder and with the heat plate on. My only concern is that it seems to get too hot to the touch and part of me is worried they are going to burn their little backs on it. It turns on and off to steady the heat I guess.. any suggestions? I raised it up to adjust so it’s not right on top of them.. see pic. Thank you

It can get hot to the touch. If its to hot the chicks wont be under it.

Do you have a infrared thermometer or thermometer you can put under the plate to take the temp?

Okay, yeah I can do that. They’ve been under it so I think it’s okay. Idk just don’t want their little backs to burn.

Im sure it wont burn them as they normally dont get that hot. But i do always check with a thermometer

I usally have a thermometer in the brooder for the first few days and use a infared thermometer to check the heat under the plate.

That's good for knowing the ambient temp but doesn't count for much when using plate vs a lamp.

Have you checked the heated surface of the plate?
