So I live in Texas and the temps just dropped, and my mom keeps thinking my chickens are gonna freeze to death at night, but I was told that they would be fine. I am scared to use a heat lamp bc I don't want to start a fire or anything... what are yall's thoughts???

As long as they are dry and their coop isn't drafty, the large fowl breeds will be perfectly fine. If you have tiny bantams or a half naked molting chicken, those are the only ones you may want to add a little heat for. But not a heat lamp please! Those are not safe.

If you do decide that you absolutely have to have heat for the chickens, consider a plate heater like Cozy Coop or a Sweeter Heater.

You definitely don't need heat in Texas. People raise chickens in Alaska with no heat and they do fine. I have chickens in MA with no heat and they do fine. Just keep them dry and out of direct wind and they'll be fine.
