Heat Stroke & Another Dead WITH signs .... What next ?!!

I just went out to check on my chickens ... they seem so alive & alert this morning with the front metal siding down. Their eyes are wide open, they are chirping & I think I have happy babies again. Today is going to be a good day. : )

JulieZ - - This is what I did this past winter - - on the inside of the coop ( where none of my neighbors could see it) I stapled CARDBOARD to the coop walls. I left it up all winter long as an insulation factor. When sping / summer arrived, I simply ripped it off the wals. IT does the job, it is easy to put up and easy to take down ! ! !

Congrats on the improvement.

MathAce ... now that's a great idea. Florida winters are not that bad but I imagine if one has become accustomed to the heat, the winter may seem colder. Not only that but if the cardboard needs replacing ... much easier than taking down metal siding. Thanks for the great winter tip. Is it here yet?

Have you been using cider vinegar in the chicken's water? I've read here that you should put some cider vinegar in their drinking water to prevent worms. "Not much, you don't want to smell or taste the vinegar."

That IS a great idea Math Ace. Right now my "coop" is one solid wall and three sides of chicken wire, with a little roost area that has a half-wall around it. They love it, and it is nice and cool, but I wasn't sure what to do in the winter. I made vinyl "curtains" I have hung on two sides when it rains really hard, but I don't think that will be enough, so thank you for the tip!

Well you can make removable panels for the walls, put up in winter and take down in summer, very much like those old storm windows in farm houses. That way you dont waste all the good products and can use again and again.

Glad you are doing good and the birds are much more comfy. I would hold off worming until the heat breaks.
