Heat wave claimed life of my hen Daisy.

Can you remove some of the sides and replace it with hardware cloth? There have been some threads on here that discuss how to better ventilate/cool the coops. I opted to go with all hardware sided pens instead of coops. I'm in North Fl and it's hot and humid as heck here.

Thanks everyone, I knew that people here on BYC would understand.
Today I have let my ladies out into the yard. I am hoping that today they will do a
little bit better. I will keep an extra close eye on them today to make sure that
they are doing okay. Best of luck to all of us who are braving the heat wave.

I'm so sorry....I'm worried about mine also. Mine are young (the oldest are just over a year) so maybe they can handle the heat better.

I have tons of water out and they're free range so they can go into the woods where it's cooler. With the heat index, it was 115 the other day......so I was reallly concerned.

A little cooler this weekend - but still way too hot.

It sounds like you did everything you could - again, I'm very sorry.

I'm so very sorry.:(

It's very hot here too and humid for the past few days and it's suppose to continue through the week or so.

My girls are very hot, even though they can go back in the woods for shading. I think I just may dip them in cooler water later this afternoon. I'm giving them Gatorade in their water. I have a fan running on them all night and I keep the coop door open for a break from the heat. The heat is awful!

So sorry.

I lost all three of mine yesterday. We also hit 108+humidity and it was just too much.

I am so sorry that is terriable. This heat is so bad, I cannot wait till the ridge of high pressure breaks to let in some
rain and a few storms. We also hit 108 + humidity too. I don't think I have ever seen it this hot before.

Best of luck to us all.

I am very sorry about your hen. We are new this year to raising chickens. We found one of our roosters this morning not himself at all. After reading all of the threads this morning, we think that is probably what is wrong with him. There are no signs of anything else. Is there anything that we could do to help our little guy out ? He is not eating or drinking.

Get him inside out of the heat. Trickle some water into his beak to see if you can get him started drinking again. I wouldn't push food for a bit. You could dip his feet in some somewhat tap temperature water too.

I am so, so sorry.

I actually have dipped two of my oegb bantams in slightly cool, not cold water the past two days when they are panting so hard. They seem to perk right up for awhile and then they free range the rest of the day. I hope this isn't bad for them. It does seem to help them.
