Well, with the temps up down here and there in MA the hens have not acclimated to the heat yet.

This morning I just filled the waterers with cool water (why bother  ) and they get an early start to roam the front yard. One waterer out front, one in the run and one in the coop.
One already laid an egg so that is good as my 2 white seem to really pant when they are about to lay.

Glad the tarp is over the Whole run and I am debating on keeping them in the run till around Noon. At Noon the front garden (err dust bath area) is shaded for the day.

I made some Wet feed, lately they seem to like it and I feed it at night before bed.

I may give the wet feed now and keep them in the run/coop area till shaded areas out front are available. In doing this I am hoping that their full Crops will make them roost in the run hut and relax a bit.
Otherwise they are all over the yard here and there mainly in the sun.

What are you doing today ?

Gave mine frozen peas, blueberries, and ice cubes. Now, they can't eat the ice cubes, but it's nice cold water once it melts (which is rather quickly). I offered different containers of water around their run. They have some shade and dig in the dirt to keep cool.

I have 4 watering stations around the yard. We also have frozen corn for them. For some reason they won't eat the blueberries.

Been brutal here too for the last few days, supposed to cool off tomorrow.
I gave a dose of electrolytes yesterday and put out shallow pans with ice cubes to lounge and sip around 4pm. Didn't cool off much last night and the humidity is ~80-90%, big birds were already panting at 8am.

Hi new englanders!
My favorite silkie, my only blue silkie...sweet and docile and friendly...just crowed his morning. We can’t keep roosters. He’s four months old and the sweetest bird ever.
If there is anyone who would be willing to still hug and pay attention to him, you can have Blue for free.
I’m in Haverhill.

I give them fresh well water on really hot days ,it’s so nice and cold . I thought we weren’t supposed to feed corn in the heat because they get hot digesting it ?is that an old wives tale ? Cause I’m an old wife
