Heated water supply for winter

What is a good option for keeping a small pool of water unfrozen for the ducks in the winter? I have a power supply across the driveway so this will be a situation of running cords - I was thinking of just using a de-icer once a day, and unplugging daily when not in use.

De-icers can work depends on what the water item is.. i have troughs here so i can add stock tank heaters to them... their are also birdbath types too.

Whatever you choose ensure it keeps it open while the bird is in it.. around here we get cold enough to freeze open water fast so i have to be sure no one gets stuck!
