Hey guys i'm trying not to clog up the forum with previously asked questions, but i can't really find a straight answer so i figured i'd ask here... I have two Swedish Blues and two Mallards at a little over a month old. I Just picked up three one-week and a half old pekin chicks to keep company with my lone khaki (2 and a half weeks). I keep the ducks in a brooder in my barn (electricity, but no heat) with a heating lamp. I had a reserve lamp, but about an hour ago discovered that the bulb's filament had been damaged, and all the farming/pet stores are closed for the evening... So ive got one bulb and 2 sets of chicks at different ages that wont mix. Can the month olds survive the night without a lamp? Like i said they are in my barn, which is incredibly solid and isn't drafty or anything, but it still gets cold out there seeing as how it isn't heated. I live in western pa right outside of pittsburgh, and the climate here is anything but regular. The forcasts from all of the main weather services project a low between 42 and 46 if that helps as well. I just cant mix the chicks as my swedish blues are complete bullies to anything smaller than them. Currently have the blues and mallards in a dog crate with a blanket covering the holes on the top and sides (not sure that will help any, but it comforted the lady). do i need to worry?
Hens go broody when you don’t want them to… and won’t go broody when you do.
