I have a 13-week old Ameracauna who has been breathing very heavily the last several days. She is also sneezing and has a "barking" noise. We can definitely hear a wheezing noise from her as well. She is eating pellets and drinking water fine. She also forages through the yard and I've seen her eat grass, bugs, etc, so she is eating well.

She did seem a bit lethargic a few days ago, but we gave her some Tylan and electrolytes just as a precautionary measure two days ago and her energy level seems back to normal now. I also think her neck/chest area looks a bit swollen, but it's hard to tell.

She has no nasal discharge, no eye bubbles, etc.

She is with 11 other chickens and none of the others are displaying anything similar. Any thoughts? We leave for vacation this weekend and I'm really worried about leaving her. I have someone coming to feed/water the girls, but they're as clueless as me when it comes to knowing what's going on. This is our first flock, so we're totally new to this!

Thanks for any help!

Are you still giving the Tylan? Injections are best, oral administration of injectable is good. It can be given as a shot for 3 days, and orally for 5-7 days. She sounds somewhat like she may have IB--infectious bronchitis, a virus that may run it's course in a month, but the Tylan can prevent secondary infections. It could be another respiratory disease also, but IB is sometimes milder. It may affect the whole flock. Click on this link for info: http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/ps044
