I found our black giant wheezing this morning and she has a crusty beak. My daughter said she had the crusty beak yesterday, too, which I did not notice. Her wheezing seems to have gotten heavier since this

morning, which makes me very nervous. Are the crusty beak and wheezing related? How can I help her????

It sounds like it might be Chronic Respiratory disease so you might want to do a search on that.

I put this link here from another thread that you might find helpful. I have been researching this because my 2y/o rooster is showing similar symptoms.

My husband and I gave him an injection of liquimycin (an antibiotic at the feed store) and he has improved. Tylan 50 is another antibiotic that has been recommended.

Sally,

I am so sorry this has happened. Please read my post on infectious coryza. The treatment is applicable for all respiratory illnesses in chickens. In addition to the protocol listed in my blog post, I have also put Breath Easy essential oil blend smeared on the inside of the box I had them in (covered with a towel) and have even put Vick's on the top of their beaks. You can also give them Breath Easy Tea or Herba Tussin tea, both by Traditional Medicinals, in an eye dropper. Definitely separate her from any other chickens and keep her separate for several days after all symptoms are gone. If you don't have any on hand, order some grapefruit seed extract today and get that in your other chickens' water ASAP (I use 1 full dropperful to 1 gallon of water) to keep them from contracting it, or if they have already been exposed, to lessen their symptoms.

Hope this helps!
