Hector's World: Adventures and Mayhem at Mountain View Poultry (or Sequel to The Evolution of Atlas

Pics
Hector doing his "run up and threaten" fake-out. He does this all the time, but he never makes contact, never bites or flogs. What a doofus! Just wanted to show 1muttsfan, without whom I would not have this goober, what he does. It does seem he has some brassiness in his hackles, maybe because he picks out the corn in the scratch anytime we give it to him.

Hector and Jill are producing champion kids! Andrew's son showed his hen, Baby, today in Jefferson, GA, his daughter out of Jill. Guess what? She got Champion American in the second show, and Champion Large Fowl in the first show! Woohoo! The rooster formerly known as The Little Tyrant has proven his worth! And so has mama, Jill. Just wish she'd start laying again.

I had let Hector out with his girls, Rowena, Jill and Thea, was in his pen doing something when I heard him roar and as I came out into the barn aisle, he came screaming into the barn door with Ro and Jill. He literally skidded and fell as they shot into the barn.

I immediately was afraid for Thea and ran out to see if something got her. I found her hunkered under a chickenwire gate-thing we had leaning against the back of the barn, unable to move. She would not even come the few steps to me, that's how scared she was. I didn't see anything, though I heard some crows so I figured that a hawk made a serious dive on them. I've never seen Hector so scared or move so fast!
