Hedwig the head case! Mental chick!

Put the feather duster close to your heat source, mimic a hen. Enjoy but think you got yourself a "shadow". Think you could make up a pouch to carry her in? That way she can have you close yet not keep you "captive" ;)
I have a small cloth purse that I was thinking of hanging around my neck as a little nest for her! Lol! No ....really! The bonus is that we are bonding, but she's definitely high maintenance. She tried the yogurt and bananas I put down so that's a good sign think.

She's doing ok, but I wouldn't say thriving. Busy day but I did find time to hold her a few times. She calms right down when I hold her. I just wish she would eat and drink as much as our other silkie who seems to be thriving.

I'm beginning to wonder if it had a "hard" hatch and/or having some internal issues. What are you feeding? You could try wetting her feed, or mixing with some plain yogurt. Try feeding some scrambled eggs, or boiled egg yolk. It wouldn't hurt the rest, try adding some vitamins/electrolytes to their water. Does her crop fill up?

Chickens are "social" critters, does she associate with the others at all? Is she alot smaller than the rest? Have you called the breeder, they may have some answers.

She's had medicated chick starter mash and water with probiotic in it. I gave them electrolytes in the water for the first few days as well. She's had plain organic yogurt and bananas. Last night I scrambled and egg, wasn't interested. The others gobble this stuff up. She's social when she isn't in the corner crying and always wants to snuggle the others. I've taken them outside to free range for 10 minute forays and she seems to come alive. It's plenty warm for this in SoCal. I did notice right from day 1 that the other three stick together but if anyone gets left behind its Hedwig. Poor baby. I'm worried about her. Tried making her eat yogurt, egg and water last night. Got some in her but she wasn't happy with me. Her crop doesn't fill up. She's just a bit smaller than the other silkie but the other silkie was smaller than her a week ago and is thriving. I'll contact the breeder today.

You are very sweet! I hope the breeder can help you and I like to learn from others so please do update me... ummm I mean us.:love
(Have you tried playing the radio... don't laugh! Sometimes a talk/chat or chilled music station works wonders on animals; providing it is not an underlying health issue).

You said she comes alive when she is outside, maybe you can take then out more. Do you also have chick grit? Have you tried feeding her meal worms lots of protein. I hope she does better with the crying today.

They go outside about 3 times a day. Busy mom with 3 sons and a dog walking and sitting biz so I can try to fit in more outdoor trips. They have a bowl of chick grit in their box. And I've tossed mealworms in there, no interest in them. She only seems to like the bananas and yogurt mix and only when she feels like it. Lots of crying today.
