Heeler thread

My negihbor has one

I want one but right now we arent home enough to deal with training a new pup.

This is my ACD, Bindi (aka Bendigo Bindi Boop Bella Blue) and her best friend/sister, Cadence. Bindi is 4 years old and after about a month of working with her, can be trusted around the chickens ( I never leave the puppies unattended for more than a few minutes), though her favorite game is "annoy the rooster". She will herd him and torment him endlessly, but never tries to hurt him. If he would just ignore her like the hens do, she wouldn't give him the time of day.

Bindi being trained not to chase the chickens. That's Pebbles, my she-roo, and my most friendly hen.

Miss Red, Trixie sounds a lot like my Kaycee, very much a one person dog!

As some of you know, I have recently lost my beloved Aussie Dog Spook. https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=364283

Didn't think I would but we have been trying to adopt a pretty little girl from Texas who is deaf. https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=366206 I don't know what is up but it seems like the person who is doing the adoption doesn't want the puppy to leave the state. I have given them tons of references from another Cattle Dog rescue, the owner of a Service Dog group and people who know how much I loved Spook. They are to let me know by tomorrow if this little girl is to come home with me.

If this doesn't happen, do any of you know of a rescue where I can find a puppy? I want a female puppy, nothing more than 9months old. I want to train her to be my next partner. Maybe even a deaf puppy like the one above?

I got what the texans call texas heeler which is a heeler/ australian sheperd mix. Had to raise her by hand at two days cause somehow got her side cut open at day 2, you could see her lung. The mom who was my future mother in laws, was pullin out the stitches so we took her to our house cause at the time I was home alot. She only knew me as mommy so she is super protective of me. Don't like it when people she don't know come anywhere close to me. Bit my little brother that lives in a different state for huggin me cause she didn't know him. Also don't like little kids to run around me. She will herd our calves but not the big cows yet. Gives my bunnies baths like they are her puppies lol. Very smart, knows lots of tricks, sit, lay down, gives both paws, speaks, rolls over, turns in a circle, both directions, dances if you say popcorn, says I love you in barks.

My family has always had heelers, one at a time (Jessie, Jake, Sissy, and Hebo) and my neighbor has a heeler (Red) and they are really nice dogs. Loyal to a T and have a lot of intuition.

That being said, I went for something different and got a Pitbull/Boxer mix when I moved out on my own. But the breed is really nice.

Anyone else notice they don't have much in the way of longevity, though? Jake lived for like 17 years but Jessie and Sissy both died at like 7-8 years.
