Let me start off with we are very very new to this...I have rode island red chicks and we just lost one

I am not sure what went wrong... All the others seem to be doing well. This little guy had poo on his rear end when I found him...and it seemed to be kinda pasty? Or clumped? K don't laugh but are they getting constipated? My little girl is heartbroken and I don't want to lose anymore...What am I doing wrong? They are on medicated feed and they are brooding in the house. They have clean feed and water and bedding. Please help

Your little chick got pasty butt, you didn't treat it and/or didn't catch it in time and it died.

EDIT: Search it up and you'll find plenty of advice on how to treat it.

My sources said to feed grit and scratch from day one, optionally before giving the chick feed. I gave them chick grit and scratch until the 48 hr mark after the first one hatched, then I started the chick feed and have had no problems.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, I always keep the grit and scratch available to them. They love it.
