Sick chick won't open eyes, diarrhoea, lethargy

Update, we are definitely on the mend. All sneezing has gone now and the really sick one is about 70% of the way there. She had a bit of an impacted crop from gorging once she was getting better but some coconut oil and light massaging and it's been clear for two days now.

Had a follow up call with the vet and the swab cultured two super uncommon and somewhat anti biotic resistant strains of bacteria (not MG or Coryza don't know the names sorry) one is water borne and one fecal borne. Luckily it seems the antibiotic we are using is working just fine. Hopefully we are all good now.

I’m so glad to hear your chicks are recovering but jeez I would definitely be letting the breeder know in case other people or they themselves are having issues…

What is your set up for the chicks like? Is there any way the brooder was contaminated or they are outside with wild birds etc?

If you don’t mind me asking, what part of Aus are you from?

Yes well the breeder seemed rather dis interested when I called them for help when this all started, if I'd followed their advice I doubt we'd have any birds left honestly.

The chicks are in a brand new 150 litre tote from Bunnings. The bedding is a brand new hemp bale from petbarn. The waterer, the feeder, everything is brand new. They've never seen the outside since we brought them home. The only thing I could possibly think is that we had them on the same tank water (rain water) that we drink ourselves. They are on mains water now since getting sick but I thought they were supposed to be able to handle rain water since I've seen heaps of people giving them rain water.

We are south East Queensland just north of Brissy.

Oh yeah maybe if it’s warm and things grow in the tank water, maybe it’s too much for a tiny chick to handle but yeah, generally you would think tank water should be okay… that sucks about the breeder’s attitude.
