We are wanting to build one of the triangle shaped chicken arks with a nesting/night area up top and run below. What would be the minimum height for each area? We will have a roost up top but it can be just inches off the floor and we want a vent on both ends high enough to not cause drafts on them. Thanks for any advice.

I'm a complete noob, but I've read about someone putting the vents at the top of the coop area and placing the roost so any draft will literally go right over the roosting chickens' heads. So there will be ventilation, but they won't be in any drafts. Something to think about.

I've discovered there are lots of great ideas to be found on this site by reading how other people constructed their coops under the "Coops" tab at the top of the page. Maybe someone has already built and has been using a similar coop! You could PM them with questions!

Oh and my husband and I decided to do a ridge vent on our coop. Once he explained the concept to me it sounded pretty good. And several seasoned chicken owners approved of the idea on another forum I visit. So that's a ventilation idea.

Also you could check out the measurements of similar coops already on the market.
Hope you find some good info!

Well, the ceiling of the "ground floor" measures at about 18 3/4 inches from ground to the bottom of the nesting area. Then it's about 10 inches of space inside the area. Basically the base of our ark is 48 inches, the sides are at about 47 inches, with 60 degree angles at each corner.
