There's a seed swap going on now. You can join in any time. I too have heirlooms and OP. If you're interested in doing some swaps PM me. I'd love a new source for heirlooms as my hubby says no more Baker Creek due to their poor germination and production rates. I'd love to try some of your Tiger melons ... those are the small orange striped ones right?

Yes Tiger Mellon's are small orange stripped and we have some Squash Crosses with Winter Squash and Acorn that is actually now my favorite

They Taste kinda like peanut butter with Mellon ,. Might even try and bake them as a pie soon . I like them better them pumpkin .

anyway when i found out my seeds crossed in that side of the yard i at first was ****** as they where Organic and then i tried one and was in heaven we accidentally planted 2 kinds i miss marked the envelope when saving the seed.

Carbaryl ("Sevin") is the only pesticide I know of for squash bug, if you are ok with using pesticides. Problem is, it doesn't work very well on adults so it has to be applied several times or when the nymphs are present. I would suggest hand pulling them and looking for eggs, as somebody else said. I actually just wrote a whole on paper squash bugs and how to control them along with pictures of what to look for, etc. If there is any way to post a word document, I'd be happy to share it.

How do you acquire Praying Mantis?

Now I'm curious--what did you plant? I've so far had incredibly great germination rates with all of the tomatoes and peppers I planted. Only one or three didn't show up out of about 150 cells. The spinach I had less luck with (3 cells out of 12). Edited to add: I got ALL of my seeds from Baker Creek. Of course, they aren't in the ground yet.

We were actually thinking of trying this, this year as well. We've been told you can just go to your local garden center and ask for a package of eggs to sit in your garden and let hatch out. But seeing as we're getting honeybees, we may do ladybugs instead in hopes that will help something.

Peaches Lee, now I'm thinking of squashes...... I may have to buy and plant a few seeds before my boyfriend notices they're in the garden ;) Do you have any recommendations for sweeter varieties? Some that are easier to make savory for soups and other similar dshes?
