I'm literally starting from scratch on everything! I don't know a thing about chickens, but as the granddaughter of a farmer I have always felt this draw towards self sufficiency/gardening/raising animals! I figure I would start with a garden this coming year as well as a few chickens in my backyard! :)
Any advice on where to start and especially the most inexpensive ways to do it would be most appreciated! :) Look forward to frequently coming back for more advice, ideas, and educating myself! Thanks!

Hello and welcome to BYC

The Learning Center is a good place to start learning about everything chicken. Under Frequently Asked Questions (scroll past the site related questions) you'll find lots of handy quick links and the "sticky threads" in blue on top of each section is also packed with lots of links and useful information relating to each section.
If you look around the Coop & Run - Design, Construction, & Maintenance section you'll get tips on building a coop and run from scratch and as little $$ as possible!
If you have any specific questions for which you can't find answers feel free to ask us. We're here to help!

Last, but not least: enjoy the site and enjoy your chickens!
