I have had my ducks for nearly a year now. started with 2 babies, who turned out to be a girl and a boy.
So now an expert.... not! bought 3 more babies. who turned out to be 2 boys 1 girl . Doh!
So my flock is 3 boys 2 girls.... I know this is wrong but its so hard to re-home drakes and I wont see them go to a bad home so I'm managing ... just....mating habits just awful !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My real problem is.....My girls went broody while we were away on vacation. My duck sitter was so lame and didn't take their eggs grrrrrrr. I have no time or date of when the eggs were laid, just guessing 3 week ish!!!!
I have just scared mums off nest and candled eggs what I see in all remaining eggs ( there was 10 but now only 5) is 2 thirds black mass and 1 3rd air sack. Are these viable embrios? I would never forgive my self if I killed their babies.
I just want to know WHAT TO DO.. MY GIRLS KEEP ATTACKING ME !!!!!

Breathe. They're broody.

I am not a hatcher, but a bunch of them check in at the Thread Formerly Known as Hatch Day is Today, so let them know what you are seeing. You may have viable embryos.

Consider splitting the pens, boys on one side, girls on the other. Some folks keep a drake pen especially during mating season.

Aside from being broody do the girls appear in good health? And the boys?

my favorite, Jemima has feather loss but Milton is fine. the boys are beautiful. an allotment has offered to take 2 drakes but i'm worried as they have lived here since they were born?
Im so out of my depth. I dont want to hurt my ducks

If the allotment is a caring place for pet drakes, and they go together, after some initial anxiety I would expect they'd be fine, if the allotment knows what they are doing. Check them out.

yes kind of my air sack may be a little bigger and flatter??? what does this mean?? should I leave them 1 more week? sorry for bring so rubbish

That probably means there are ducklings, honestly I don't use an incubator so candling for me is just enjoyment, it's not something I have down to a science.

I have just candled my eggs again and 1 chirped at me !!!!!!! so glad I gave them the extra week !
