I joined your sight about 3.5 years ago, but lost interest (or had to) once my husband nixed the idea of chickens all together. I FINALLY convinced him that it would be a great venture, (bargained with him actually!). I am looking for information on good placement of a med. sized coop. From what I learned last time on here, Close rather than far away from the house is better in my case due to snow removal and Predators. We have you name it basically up here as far as predators go. I plan on building an above ground insulated coop and using hardware cloth all around. Possibly with a roof over the run as well. Maybe the coop would be better on grade rather than raised? Sun exposure will be necessary, as well as some shade.
*Power is available in a location 30 ft from the house in a SW direction. Water is nearby(Location 1) Any odor during the summer will be downwind.
*Another location will also have access to power and is about 65 feet away from the house, a bit more difficult as far as snow removal goes. House is in a SW direction also. Water is about 60 ft away. I will have to carry pails. (Location 2) Summer odors downwind again.
Shade trees are an old oak and a big white pine.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Cindy
