Hello again

I’m not sure if I ever introduced myself. I live in Prince George, BC Canada. Its fairly cold and snowy here. I have 8 hens and a rooster, barnyard mix. Currently getting one egg per day, sadly.

Welcome, welcome! Cold temps cause slowdowns in egg production, sadly. I have 5 girls and haven't had an egg in weeks!! One egg per day sounds like heaven, lol!!

I always tell them that I know they have to use their energy to stay warm, so it's ok. But if they suddenly decided to start popping out eggs again I'd probably burst into song & kiss them all!! They're freeloaders right now, but they're MY sweet, little freeloaders, lol. Part & parcel of running an old age home for chickens, I guess...

Hi! Welcome to BYC! The shorter days make them take a break. some people add light a few hours a day to increase production. I have done that, but now I just let them take the winter off. Good news is, winter solstice is tomorrow and from there they days start getting longer again. I'm getting 1 or 2 out of 7 layers right now too. We get just over 8 hours of daylight a day, so I imagine you get 7?
