I've been an avid reader on BYC since March, but officially joined yesterday- the day I had to re-home part of my flock. It was traumatic

and I needed support, but we made it-thank you! I am now down to only one rooster, "Big Red" and his 4 ladies, I think there are two barred rock (Alice & Vera), one white leghorn (Flo), and one Dutch Bantam she is smaller, but definitely the female leader, (Tiger Lilly).

We took them home from Atwood's on a whim in March of this year- was going to be 3, turned into 5, then a student brought me two at school, so we had 7 fuzzy chicks. They were from the straight run, so we took our chances. I remember having to feed the chickens and get the eggs when I was in grade school, but It doesn't even compare to now- they come running when they see me and I actually miss them when I don't get to spend some time with them!

I love this place and have learned so much, I always come here before I buy anything or do anything to/for my chicks- thank you all for all the great info!

Howdy Ms Shannon, You have such a pretty flock of chickens. I can imagine how you must have felt. I've never had to give away any of my chickens but I have had two young cockerels die and it was so heart breaking. Best of luck to you and your flock of wonderful birds!

Thank you all for the welcomes

I re-homed two. I very sadly gave away my Turken, Turkey in the Straw, and sent a female so he wouldn't be lonely. The neighbors are going to start a flock with him and his hen. My two boys were constantly fighting and he was always the one left out and picked on. He started being aggressive to the girls, and recently to me, so he left our yard and now has his own place to rule the roost.

Hello and welcome to BYC

Sorry to hear you had to rehome some of your flock. I recently had to rehome more than 50 of my chickens when we moved. I actually cried when I had to say goodbye to some of the special ones. But they went to good homes!

BTW Love the pic of you rooster.
