Hello, just joined up. We have been waiting the economy and talking about how we can be more self sufficient food and energy wise. So the thought of chickens came up just after we began planting seeds for a garden. Our village does not allow chicken for in proper residence but unincorporated may. We have spoken to all out neighbors who agree , they too would like egg layers. So I'm here to read comments and articles and see what I can learn. We do have a women trying to change the ordinance for chickens so I'll be watching that too.
I found BYC by mistake, I was googling chickens and this group popped up. Which is perfect for me. We know nothing about them. Other than a high school job cleaning out pens so many decades ago. Ha ha. Thanks for adding us. I look forward to learning.
 
Lot of stuff on this site to help you out. Info on coop ideas, feeding, health issues, and breeds. Sometimes opinions differ but you can figure out what works for you. Lots of reading will help.

Where I used to live chickens were allow as long as there was no rooster.

It is helpful if you add your location. Click on your name at top right. Go to account details. Scroll down to add location. Be general ie mine is Eastern Ontario Canada.
