Nice to meet you all and I hope to learn a lot. I am in the beginning stages of starting a flock of 4, but trying to learn how to build a coop out of pallets first. Lost my job 3 months ago otherwise I'd have my girls by now, in fact my wife and kids already have the names picked out. I'm positive I'll have tons of questions so I hope you don't mind.

Welcome mammo6 - I am in North Carolina, transferred from Long Island 23 years ago. Chickens are a great hobby and you can't beat fresh eggs. Good luck building your coop and getting your flock started. Check out the coop building info on BYC as I am sure you will get some good tips.

Thanks, I'll need it. Talked to a woman today that has chickens and she told me where I can get some here on the island. Prior to that I was thinking I'd have to order by mail...just hope Agway still has them when I'm ready. Built the floor of the coop today. How big should the coop be if I only want 4 hens(3 rir and 1 easter egger)? Using pallets and right now the floor is only 3x6.
